Into the West
Recently, the cast and crew of Entropy House Productions' Lord of the Peeps bid a sad farewell to one of their own. Arry Awk passed away at 10 years of age from complications relating to heart failure. A professional feline, he was sometimes involved with more stages of production than was helpful, but was most famous for contributing to the wardrobe and makeup department the fur necessary for Gimli the Dwarf's lush orange beard. This loss was a particularly heavy blow to a cast and crew that have already known much confectionary-related tragedy. "He was so sweet. He was a big guy, I mean HUGE - we used to tease him about being the set bouncer!" sobbed one crew-member. "And red-headed with it. But underneath all that ginger, he was pure marshmallow." Another friend reminisced, "Some of the newbies were nervous of him. He liked his vittles, you see, and he wasn't above biting ankles if dinner didn't get served fast enough. He'd clean his plate and then start on everybody else's leftovers and even lick the serving bowls clean, and the pots, if he could get at 'em when the cook wasn't looking. And he was always thinking about his next meal - you could be talking to him at a party and he'd get that look in his eye, like he was trying to turn you into a pot roast - some poor extra across the room would start quivering at the edges. There were a few old timers couldn't resist teasing a bit, about being desert and all, but eventually we'd let 'em in on the joke - in other words, if you weren't made of meat, you'd be fine. The only sweet Arry much cared for was a lick of leftover ice cream from someone else's bowl or maybe a taste of maple syrup from their pancakes, something like that. A few gelatin molecules in whipped-up corn syrup just didn't do it for him." Questions have arisen over who will take over Arry's many duties. Ing, one of Arry's closest friends, offered to supply Gimli with the means to go grey overnight, but John Peep-Davies, who plays the dwarf, decided against it. "I want everyone to remember Arry the way he was. This orange beard's going right on through to the end." He beckoned me closer, looked around cautiously, and whispered, "Assuming the producer doesn't drop dead before we get to the end. She's got a wonky heart herself, you know." He chuckled. "On the other hand, it's the sweet that die young, so I doubt we'll see the back of HER any time soon." |
